The Hartford Chapter of the Jamaica Progressive League was launched on March 27, 1974. Some of the early pioneers were: Mr. Algon Grange (founding president) Mr. Victor Rodney, Mr. Herman Gray, Mr. Ossie Grant, Mr. Collin Edwards, Mrs.Cathy Tomlinson, Ms. Inez Moncreffe, and Ms. Kathleen “aunt may” Crooks.
The Chapter has served the Hartford community and the people of Jamaica in a number of ways.

Computer Training -
*Free Computer Classes for all are offered throughout the year.
Scholarship -
*The Joy Rodney scholarship given yearly to students at Weaver High entering college.
*The Algon Grange Scholarship given yearly to students at Dinthill Technical High School, Jamaica, entering university.
*The President scholarship given to senior within the hartford school system entering college.
Cultural/Social:
Celebration of Black History.
Jamaica Day” (exhibition of the Jamaican culture in its various forms)
Charitable:
Barrel Program.
Contributions to deserving individuals and causes.
