Hartford Chapter

From The Ground Up

The Jamaica progressive League Hartford Chapter Inc. fulfills a very vital function in the city of Hartford. Launched in 1974 by a patriotic group of Jamaicans, it has worked tirelessly to support the members of the community and Jamaicans at home.

Jamaica House has become a favorite place for many to go; relax, unwind and chat about their favorite topic- in typical Caribbean assertiveness with each person holding on to his or her own “facts”. Jamaica House is a very important part of the social life of the community.

The provision of various programs to help its members and the community at large is in keeping with the finest tradition of the organization whose parent body was established in response to the social and economic condition of the people of Jamaica at the time. The focus on educational opportunities and charitable outreach fundamentally define the origin, development, and operational procedure of the organization.

The hope is that succeeding generations will see the necessity and importance of the organization and take it to even higher levels of performance. The work to advance the human condition is noble and should continue no matter how difficult the road.
